San Jose Obrero Parish in La Victoria district, Chiclayo, Lambayeque region, experienced a historic night on August 10, thanks to the arrival of the papal miter sent directly from the Vatican by
Pope Leo XIV to his beloved Diocese of the northern Peruvian city.
During the Thanksgiving Mass celebrated outside the San Jose Obrero Parish, Father Rimaycuna conveyed the Holy Father's greeting and blessing.
Similarly, Rimaycuna reminded everyone that "Chiclayo is in the Pope's heart," as he served as bishop of this Diocese before his pontificate.
In his homily, he emphasized that this Diocese has received a unique gift and, as the Gospel says, "to whom much is given, much will be required."
The priest invited everyone to pray for the Pope, not only out of Christian duty but also because of the special bond that unites them.
"We have the duty to protect him with our prayers and to defend him; if he is Peter, the firm rock of the Church, he needs all of us," Rimaycuna stated.

Likewise, he urged everyone to live a faith consistent with the Gospel, reminding them that the true preparation for the Lord's coming consists of investing the talents and gifts God has given in service and help to others.
Father Rimaycuna shared anecdotes that illustrate the Pope's closeness, even after he was in Rome, conveying messages of congratulations and prayers to priests from Chiclayo.
He also shared that the decision to gift the papal miter to this parish was a personal initiative of the Supreme Pontiff himself, a reflection of the affection he holds for the community of his beloved Diocese of Chiclayo.

The ceremony —which brought together local authorities, priests, and hundreds of faithful— concluded with a special moment: La Victoria District Mayor Edwin Vasquez awarded Father Rimaycuna the District Medal in recognition of his pastoral career and his work at the Holy See, made official through Mayoral Resolution No. 310-2025.
"This recognition is not just for me, but for all of La Victoria, which has always supported and accompanied me in my vocation," the priest stated, filled with emotion.
The presentation of the miter and the Pope's message will remain a milestone in the history of La Victoria, reaffirming the faith, unity, and commitment of its community to the Church.

The miter —made with fine materials, embroidered with golden threads, and adorned with delicate gemstones— represents the authority and dignity of the Pope in the Catholic Church.
Its arrival in La Victoria district holds special significance, as Leo XIV maintained a deep connection with Chiclayo, the northern city where he served as bishop from 2014 before his pontificate.
As is known, Pope Leo XIV —Robert Prevost— was born in the United States but also holds Peruvian nationality.
