President Dina Boluarte stressed that the Asia-Pacific region has consolidated itself as an essential strategic partner for Peru, within the framework of her recent official visits to Japan and Indonesia, in an opinion column released this week.

The government published an editorial in the supplement "Peru and Asia, Partnerships that Build a Future" released in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Monday.

Within this framework, the Head of state highlighted that in an interconnected world the relationship between Asia-Pacific and Peru is gaining increasing relevance in driving sustainable development.

"This region, recognized for its rapid growth and global influence, has consolidated itself as a key strategic partner for our country," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

Similarly, the top official pointed out that Peru, with its biodiversity, natural wealth, and location on the Pacific, has everything needed to fully seize these opportunities.

International integration and strategic partnerships

The President reminded readers that Peru currently maintains trade agreements with more than 50 countries, ensuring preferential access to over 83% of global GDP and 43% of the world’s population.

"This international integration is one of the greatest assets of our foreign policy and development model," she emphasized.

In this context, the top official underlined that the 2024 APEC Summit in Lima marked "a turning point in Peru's international outreach," which led to official invitations to Japan and Indonesia.

Official visit to Japan

During her stay in Tokyo, President Dina Boluarte took part in the Peruvian–Japanese Business Council (Cepeja).

At this event, the Head of State presented an investment portfolio  worth over US$17 billion in strategic sectors such as transportation, telecommunications, infrastructure, mining, hydrocarbons, health, education, and sanitation.

Likewise, the top official held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and was received in audience by Emperor Naruhito, within the framework of more than 150 years of friendship between the two countries.

Agreements with Indonesia

In Indonesia, the President met with her Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto, with whom she signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

According to Mrs. Boluarte, this treaty "will boost the exchange of goods and open the door to greater investment, services, and e-commerce."

A Joint Declaration on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations was also signed.

Additionally, cooperation was strengthened in trade, investment, culture, tourism, agriculture, fisheries, and renewable energy.

In Jakarta, the Head of State participated in the Peru–Indonesia Business Forum.

During the event, she reaffirmed her vision of turning Peru into the South Pacific's logistics hub, integrating infrastructure, trade, and productive supply.

Infrastructure and vision for the future

The President recalled that 2025 was declared the "Year of the Recovery and Consolidation of the Peruvian Economy."

In this regard, Mrs. Boluarte highlighted port projects in Callao and Chancay, as well as other terminals along the coast, which will consolidate Peru as a regional integration platform.

"That is the central purpose of my government: to leave behind a better Peru than the one we received in December," Mrs. Boluarte underscored.
