The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, will hold a private audience with the Emperor of Japan, Naruhito —a meeting that is difficult to obtain but was scheduled by authorities of the Asian country, demonstrating their interest in strengthening relations with Peru, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stated.

"President (Boluarte) will be received by Emperor Naruhito of Japan, which is something very special. Moreover, a private audience is very difficult to arrange, though not in our case, because it was offered to us by the Japanese side; we did not seek it. So, there is a desire, an interest in bringing us together," he told Canal N.

The diplomat also emphasized that this trip is important because Japan is Peru's sixth-largest trading partner and there is interest in investing in the South American country.

"What the President is doing —and this is very important in international relations— is responding to the invitation extended to her by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba when he was received on an official visit in 2024, as part of his visit for APEC," Schialer said.

Likewise, he stated that Japan and its people have shown clear signs of wanting to strengthen ties with Peru, as evidenced by the recent exemption of visa requirements for Peruvians traveling to the Asian country.

Furthermore, the minister noted that a significant group of Peruvian businesspeople will travel as part of the official delegation.

Meanwhile, Peru will sign a comprehensive trade agreement in Indonesia, following negotiations led by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
