German Ambassador Sabine Bloch on Friday highlighted that her country has become firmly established as Peru's main development cooperation partner, with active engagement spanning over six decades.

"Germany's cooperation, which has been present in the country for 62 years, is the most important, with around 1.5 billion euros in assets currently, and each year we provide between 300 and 500 million euros in new cooperation," she told RPP Noticias.

This commitment includes not only financial assistance, but also a strong focus on political training, democracy, and institutional strengthening.

Part of this contribution is channeled through political foundations such as Friedrich Naumann, Konrad Adenauer, Friedrich Ebert, and Hanns Seidel, which work with parties and youth in Peru.

Participation in PERUMIN

Germany has also taken on an important role in the mining and technological field. This year, it will be the guest country of honor at the 37th PERUMIN Mining Convention.

The event will be held from September 22 to 26, 2025, at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in the southern city of Arequipa.

Although it does not operate mines in Peru, Germany will contribute machinery, technology, and innovation.

"We are going to bring interesting ideas. The slogan of PERUMIN will be 'Innovation versus tradition,'" the diplomat announced.

Importance of Callao Port

In terms of strategic investment, Germany maintains a prominent presence in major infrastructure projects such as the Jorge Chavez International Airport, located in Callao region.

According to the envoy, this project has represented an investment of 1.6 billion euros, even surpassing that of Chancay in its first stage.

"Chancay still only has its first stage, and the investment is lower than that of the airport," the ambassador stated.

In this context, Germany and other European Union countries have a special focus on Callao.

"For us, Callao is the main port, and we have some very interesting ideas to develop this area of Callao: Callao airport, Callao port, like Europe, like a hub," she noted.

Scholarships for Peruvian students

Finally, although in a more secondary manner, the diplomat also referred to educational opportunities for Peruvians in Germany.

Bloch explained that there are about 2,000 Peruvian students pursuing studies at German universities, of whom between 20% and 25% have received scholarships.

The most sought-after fields of study are related to engineering, but there are also students in medicine, philosophy, and other disciplines.

To access these opportunities, learning the language is essential, and the Goethe-Institute in Peru provides that linguistic support.

In this way, Germany reaffirms its commitment to Peru as a priority partner in Latin America.
