The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Friday called for continued efforts to ensure that the “Ruraq Maki: Handmade” craft and traditional art fair reaches the world, so that the richness of Peru's cultural expressions and the work of its artisans may become known internationally.

"We must continue working on promoting our culture, our traditions, and our knowledge —not only Ruraq Maki at the national level, but let's bring Ruraq Maki to the world. Let's take it to Asia, to Europe, to all of the Americas, because culture abroad is highly appreciated and greatly valued," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

During the opening of the Ruraq Maki craft and traditional art fair, the Head of State said that the work of master artisans —who bring the traditions of the past into the present and project them into the future— should be proudly showcased.

"Let's aim for Ruraq Maki to cross borders, for the world to discover the richness of our cultural expressions, and for our artisans and traditional artists to be recognized as the true ambassadors of our beloved homeland," she stated.

After stressing that this effort will have the support of the government, Mrs. Boluarte paid tribute to the more than 200 artisan collectives taking part in the fair, many of them from Indigenous or native communities, both Amazonian and Andean, as well as from the Afro-Peruvian community.

The top official noted that the participation of all these collectives enriches Ruraq Maki and reaffirms the value of intangible cultural heritage as one of the pillars that strengthen identity.

"Our government stands with you. Ruraq Maki is culture, it is tradition, and it is history; it is also development," she expressed.

The top official noted that since 2016, this craft and folk art fair has generated over S/20 million (above US$5.63 million) in sales, benefiting more than 2,600 collectives and, through them, over 100,000 Peruvian families.

Within this framework, the President invited citizens and foreign tourists visiting Peru to attend Ruraq Maki, which is being held at the Ministry of Culture headquarters in Lima.

"I invite our fellow citizens to visit and explore this exhibition with open and eager hearts, moved by the beauty, the history, and the strength of our living cultures. May each piece of art purchased also be an act of support and love for the country we are and the country we want to continue building," she concluded.
