Formal employment nationwide rose by 4.7% in June 2025 compared to the same period last year, marking 15 consecutive months of growth, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported on Monday.

According to the issuing entity, the June 2025 growth represents an additional 272,000 jobs compared to the same month in 2024.

"In the private sector, formal jobs rose 6.3% compared to June last year. Additionally, the services, agricultural, and trade sectors created the largest number of jobs, totaling 88,000, 67,000, and 34,000 positions, respectively," it indicated.

The BCR reported that the formal wage bill, which represents the total income earned by workers, rose 6.2% in real terms in June 2025 compared to the same month in 2024.

This trend is attributed to the sustained 4.7% increase in formal jobs, according to information from the electronic payroll.

"The private sector wage bill rose 8.7% year-on-year in real terms in June. This increase was mainly driven by stronger growth in the services and trade sectors. With this expansion rate, 15 consecutive months of improvement have been recorded," the BCR stated.

"The concept of the wage bill in the labor context is determined by multiplying the average income by the total number of formal jobs," it added.
