Peru: 258 kg of cocaine hydrochloride hidden in container seized at Piura's Paita Port

13:24 | Piura (Piura region), Jul. 24.

More than 258 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were seized at the Port of Paita in a joint operation by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Drug Trafficking Crimes of Piura, the Peruvian National Police's Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro-PNP), and the National Superintendence of Tax Administration (Sunat).

According to the Public Ministry, the discovery and seizure of this significant drug shipment took place at the Euroandinos Port Terminal, located in Paita province, Piura region, northern Peru.

It explained that the shipment consisted of 211 brick-shaped packages containing cocaine hydrochloride, with a total weight of 258.22 kilograms.

The drug was packed in eight black canvas bags, found inside a container whose final destination was the Port of Valencia, Spain.

After a series of investigative procedures and intelligence work, the possible contamination of said container —originating in Colombia— was detected.

This modus operandi consists of hiding illicit substances without the formal exporter’s knowledge.

Lastly, the Public Ministry emphasized that this coordinated action represents a new blow to international drug trafficking networks and reaffirms its commitment, and that of its strategic allies, in the fight against transnational organized crime.
