The Government of Peru welcomed the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda on June 27, as a result of dialogue and mediation efforts promoted by regional and international actors.

"This agreement represents a key step toward restoring peace, stability, and cooperation in the Great Lakes region (of Africa)," the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated in a communiqué on Monday night.

Peru noted that it values the commitment made by both parties to achieve a lasting ceasefire, facilitate the withdrawal of the M23 armed group, and restore constructive diplomatic relations.

Similarly, it recognized the mediation role played by the United States and Qatar, as well as the support provided by the African Union, the East African Community, and the United Nations during the negotiation process.

The Peruvian Government also took this opportunity to reiterate its firm support for all initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

Moreover, it reaffirmed its respect for international law, the sovereignty of states, and the protection of the civilian population.

In this regard, Peru joined the international community's call to ensure the fulfillment and effective implementation of the commitments made.
