The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) stated that it is coordinating with the relevant sectors to obtain the technical reports required to bring the Optimization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China into effect before the end of 2025.

The authorities discussed the efforts being made by both countries to successfully conclude the internal improvement process of the Optimization Agreement.

Likewise, they discussed the opportunities presented by this instrument, which will help consolidate and expand the presence of Peruvian products and services in the Chinese market.

"We have reached a modern and ambitious trade agreement that will boost our bilateral trade and strengthen new areas related to e-commerce, investment, among others," Deputy Minister Mera emphasized.

In turn, the Ambassador stated that, as the next host of APEC 2026, the People's Republic of China hopes to work cooperatively with Peru to build on the leadership achieved during APEC Peru 2024, where the Leaders' Declaration and 11 Ministerial Declarations were adopted.

Moreover, they highlighted the entry of Peruvian products with high export potential into the Chinese market, thanks to recent phytosanitary protocols signed by the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa).

These include Brazil nuts, pecans, and frozen fruits such as blueberries, mangoes, and avocados, thereby expanding opportunities for Peruvian products.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to secure the entry of pomegranates and poultry meat.

Dominican Republic

At the event, the authorities reported that they are coordinating the organization of the First Meeting of the Joint Commission, established under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022 with the Dominican Republic.

"The Dominican Republic has established itself as Peru's main trading partner in the Caribbean; therefore, we consider it of great interest to continue working together for the benefit of Peruvian companies," Deputy Minister Mera underscored.

During the session, Peru's interest in exchanging experiences on the management of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) — an area in which the Dominican Republic has extensive experience — was highlighted.

Therefore, both sides agreed to coordinate actions to share best practices and analyze implementation models tailored to the Peruvian context.

In this regard, Deputy Minister Mera expressed interest in conducting a technical visit to the Port of Caucedo and the Multimodal Free Zone, considered the most important in the Caribbean country.
