Peru seeks to boost strategic mining exploration projects for 2025-2026

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) has launched a series of working meetings with the companies responsible for prioritized mining exploration projects nationwide, under the initiative "Peru Explores: Actions to Boost the Advancement of Strategic Mining Exploration Projects for 2025–2026."

The exploration phase is a key element for the start of mining activities, as it not only attracts domestic and foreign investment but also enables the discovery of new deposits and helps extend the lifespan of mining units already in operation, the Mining Promotion Directorate (DPM) pointed out.

It is worth noting that the DPM belongs to the General Directorate of Mining Promotion and Sustainability (DGPSM).

This strategy consists of 15 working meetings to be held over the coming weeks, with the aim of identifying alternatives that facilitate the progress of these initiatives, foster investment in exploration, and contribute to the development of a sustainable project portfolio with regional and national impact.

"In Peru, the wealth of the subsoil remains a source of opportunities; therefore, Minem promotes a favorable environment for mining investment, in addition to strengthening the permitting evaluation processes and positioning Peru as a competitive destination for exploration," the DPM emphasized.

In line with this, Minem presented the 2025 Mining Exploration Project Portfolio last March.

The portfolio includes 84 initiatives totaling US$1.039 billion in investment. Each new mining exploration project represents a commitment to development, sustainability, and job creation.

It should be noted that this series of meetings began with Vale Exploration Peru S.A., which presented its exploration projects planned for the coming years.

The company expressed its interest in identifying areas with economic potential that would enable it to consolidate future investments contributing to the development and economic dynamism of the regions where it is conducting preliminary studies.

Before concluding the meeting, the company's representatives requested technical support from Minem in order to enable their initiatives and strengthen their commitment to responsible mining in Peru.
