Peruvian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Felix Denegri participated in the meeting with Ireland to strengthen political, economic, and cooperation dialogue between the two countries.

Peru and Ireland held the 3rd Political Consultations Mechanism in Dublin, reaffirming their willingness to strengthen bilateral ties and consolidate a shared agenda.

The Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry reported on X that the meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister Felix Denegri and Ireland's Deputy Secretary General at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Sonja Hyland.

During the session, both delegations highlighted the excellent level of bilateral relations.

Similarly, they welcomed the recent establishment of the Ireland–Peru Parliamentary Friendship Group, which will allow for strengthening political and parliamentary ties between the two nations.

Deputy Minister Denegri expressed Peru's interest in Ireland establishing a Resident Embassy in Lima, which would enhance political cooperation, promote investment, and facilitate the participation of Irish companies in development projects.

He noted that this would align with the Global Ireland strategy, which aims to strengthen Irish diplomatic presence in Latin America.

Economic, educational, and cultural cooperation

Priority topics such as trade, investment, science, and technology were also discussed, along with educational and cultural cooperation.

In the economic sphere, emphasis was placed on leveraging the EU–Peru Multiparty Trade Agreement, which enabled bilateral trade to reach US$119 million in 2024 —a 24% increase compared to the previous year.

The possibility of eliminating short-stay visas for Peruvian citizens wishing to visit Ireland was discussed as well, as this would boost tourism, academic exchanges, and technical cooperation.

Security, multilateralism, and official visits

Regarding security, Deputy Minister Denegri presented Peru's actions against transnational organized crime through forums such as the Andean Community, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the promotion of a future South American Port Alliance against illicit drug trafficking.

In the international sphere, views were exchanged on global crises, the climate agenda, and the strengthening of multilateralism.

Additionally, the Peruvian diplomat announced the upcoming arrival of the training ship B.A.P. Union at the Port of Dublin on September 6, as part of its fifth international training voyage. This will be the vessel's first official visit to the European country.

Moreover, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening the friendship and cooperation bonds at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.

They also highlighted the value of the Political Consultations Mechanism as a key platform for advancing shared interests and generating new opportunities.
