The Minister of the Diplomatic Service of the Republic (SDR) and Peru's Alternate Senior Official to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, Victor Antonio Muñoz, highlighted that our country is leading the implementation of the agreements adopted during APEC 2024.

"Peru is leading its implementation, and in doing so we are fulfilling a decision of the Peruvian Government and State," he stated during an interview with Andina News Agency.

Muñoz recalled that under Peru's chairmanship of the APEC 2024 forum, 20 official deliverables were agreed upon, including the Machu Picchu Declaration adopted by APEC Leaders, 11 sectoral ministerial statements, and 8 technical-political instruments.

He pointed out that the technical-political instruments cover various topics —all proposed by Peru— such as promoting the transition to an economy based on formality, energy security and the promotion of low-emission hydrogen, and food security from the perspective of food loss and waste, among others.

"All these topics are a priority for Peru, and each had its own instruments agreed upon by the 21 APEC economies last year, all of which are being implemented starting this year," the official emphasized.

In the case of energy security, he noted, a roadmap for low-emission hydrogen issuance was approved. This year, Peru proposed an implementation plan that was adopted in April by the 21 economies that make up the bloc.

Similarly, the diplomat highlighted the approval of the roadmap to promote economic formality, perhaps the most notable instrument in the forum, which directly involves Peru.

"We know that informality is a problem that affects Peru, but the interesting point is that all economies acknowledge that this issue also affects their economic processes," he indicated.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that a Special Monitoring Mechanism has been established, under the coordination of the ministry itself, to implement the agreements of APEC Peru 2024.

This mechanism brings together 15 sectors to fulfill more than 70 commitments in areas such as economic formality, energy transition, economic empowerment, among others.
