The National Superintendence of Higher University Education (Sunedu) and the British Council signed an Interinstitutional Cooperation Agreement that will allow for the development of joint initiatives aimed at strengthening quality, institutional management, and the internationalization of university education in Peru.

The signing ceremony was held at the British Embassy headquarters in Lima on Tuesday.

The event saw the participation of Sunedu Superintendent Dr. Manuel Castillo Venegas; Board Members Dr. Andres Ramos and Dr. Jose Pereyra; Secretary General Luis Rodríguez; and Director of Higher University Education Service Evaluation, Vicente Espinoza.

Also present were UK Minister of State for Latin America Baroness Jenny Chapman; British Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook; and British Council Country Director Sissi Hamann.

The purpose of this agreement is to develop mechanisms and instruments of collaboration between the parties, within the framework of their respective competences and institutional policies, with the aim of implementing joint initiatives geared toward strengthening the higher university education system in Peru.

Educational inclusion

It also aims to coordinate and implement actions related to university quality assurance, the improvement of institutional management, the internationalization of education, educational inclusion, and the strengthening of the English language.

"With this partnership, we expect to generate greater opportunities for internationalization for our students and teaching staff," Superintendent Manuel Castillo stated during the ceremony.

Facing global challenges

In turn, British Council Country Director Sissi Hamann emphasized that "internationalization brings overseas experience and global issues into educational curricula, enabling universities to shape a more competitive student profile."

Thanks to this signing, Sunedu and the British Council consolidate a space for cooperation that will enable the creation of synergies, the sharing of experiences, and the strengthening of mutual trust for the benefit of Peru's university system and the academic community at large.
