At the conclusion of President Dina Boluarte's trip to Japan and Indonesia, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer continued with an official visit to Singapore. In his third destination, the Peruvian diplomat was received by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana Palace, highlighting the excellent state of Peru-Singapore bilateral relations.

Likewise, Minister Schialer co-chaired, together with his counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan, the 3rd Political-Diplomatic Consultations Mechanism.

These meetings took place within the framework of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

This visit reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations and underscored the interest of both governments in promoting increased trade, diversifying export offerings, and encouraging investments.

Both countries have maintained a Free Trade Agreement since 2009 and are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

During the day, Minister Schialer highlighted the commercial opportunities Peru offers, especially in the agricultural, mining, and fishing sectors.

Furthermore, he invited Singapore to participate in various investment projects and in the implementation and use of Peru's logistics hub infrastructure.

This initiative aims to position the country as a key connectivity hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

In order to create a favorable investment environment and strengthen economic ties, the entry into force of a business visa exemption for Singaporean citizens was announced, demonstrating Peru's commitment to facilitating visits by entrepreneurs to the South American country and reinforcing people-to-people connections.

Both countries' foreign affairs ministers also took part in the signing ceremony of an important cooperation agreement.

A new agreement was signed between Singapore Cooperation Enterprise and the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI), which will promote new interinstitutional collaboration agreements in areas of mutual interest.

Within the framework of the visit to Singapore, progress was made toward establishing a strategic alliance between associations from both countries to boost the trade of Peruvian meat products, through a memorandum of understanding involving the Poultry Association of Peru, the Pork Producers Association of Peru, and the Meat Traders Association Singapore.

Moreover, Foreign Affairs Minister Schialer emphasized that Peru, as a Development Partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will launch a cooperation program with the bloc's member states.

He also expressed gratitude to Singapore for supporting Peru's initiation of the accession process to the
Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA).
