Prime Minister Eduardo Arana congratulated the Official Gazette El Peruano on its 200th anniversary, underscoring its importance as a link with citizenry.

"First of all, I want to congratulate the Official Gazette El Peruano and highlight, among citizenry, the importance of having a communication channel that dates back to the founding of the Republic of Peru," he stated.

Arana recalled that El Peruano Independiente (The Independent Peruvian), as the newspaper was originally called, perhaps exemplifies what the Republic of Peru means after gaining independence and transitioning from the viceroyalty to republican life.

"El Peruano is the best example of how a newspaper could be established that helped shape Peru's identity and build the republic," he expressed.

The high-ranking official emphasized that the work carried out by El Peruano Independiente was to convey the vision of freedom, republic, and democracy to those who still thought the viceroyalty existed.

"Today, El Peruano serves the same function; it is the same bridge that connects those who do not know what democracy means, the history of our country, and the significance of the Constitution," he stated.

In that regard, Arana noted that citizenry is strengthened daily through the information disseminated in its pages and digital platforms.

Moreover, the Prime Minister acknowledged that the official gazette represents a crucial asset for the South American country's law and legal certainty due to the publication of the Legal Regulations supplement.

Additionally, the Cabinet chief highlighted the importance of the official information delivered through El Peruano.

"It also serves as the spokesperson for what the State can do and what citizenry needs to know. People must know that the State and Government are working and all the challenges they face," he emphasized.

The Prime Minister made these remarks after inaugurating the conference series El Peruano: 200 Years of Official Communication and Legal Certainty.
