The Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex) stated that the
reduces logistics costs in foreign trade and improves the competitiveness of exporting companies.
"It is also a matter of cost, because when you ship a product like blueberries directly from Chancay to Shanghai, you are saving days of travel, and that translates into lower logistics costs, making you a bit more competitive," he added.
The Adex chairman noted that Peru should increase its non-traditional exports to the Chinese market.
"For now, most exports to China are traditional products, and we need to work on growing in that market with non-traditional exports. We must continue to promote bilateral trade with this type of product," Tello said.
"We need to sell more and more non-traditional products —not just minerals, but also fruits, non-metallic mining products, squid— those are the kinds of things we must keep selling to China," he added.
The Port of Chancay has three components: the first is the port operations area, which includes jetties, maritime access channels, maintenance areas and workshops, as well as storage spaces for containers, bulk cargo, and rolling cargo.
The second is the entrance complex, which includes the vehicle pre-port area, entry gates, customs inspection area, administrative offices, as well as a zone for logistics and support services.
The third component is a 1.8-kilometer-long tunnel, which is part of a road corridor for the movement of cargo related to port operations.
This underground viaduct features three vehicle lanes, two conveyor belts for solid bulk cargo, and pipelines for liquid bulk cargo.
