Peru has advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Syria due to the recent escalation of violence in that country.

Through a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also addressed fellow citizens who are already in the Middle Eastern country.

They were urged to stay informed through reliable sources about the developments concerning the security situation in Syria.

In this regard, compatriots were advised to follow the instructions of local authorities and international organizations.

Likewise, the Ministry encouraged them to stay in contact through its official channels, as well as with the Embassy of Peru in Egypt, which is responsible for providing consular assistance to Peruvians in Syria.

To that end, they may contact the Consular Section of the Embassy of Peru in Egypt through the emergency phone number (+20) 122 733 0530, as well as via email at consulperu-elcairo@rree.gob.pe

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates that the protection of the lives and well-being of Peruvian citizens abroad is a priority and will continue to permanently monitor the situation in Syria and the region, keeping our Peruvian nationals informed of any additional measures," the statement concluded.
