The physical and legal regularization of the Muyuqhawa Monumental Archaeological Complex, located in Alto Pichihua district, Espinar province, Cusco region, has been completed.
It is a representative example of Espinar's archaeology, having been a Kana settlement later occupied by the Incas.
This site stands out for its five walls adapted to the terrain's morphology, cyclopean walls of irregular masonry, circular and rectangular structures, terraces, and funerary contexts in circular and ovoid shapes, all located on a plateau.
Likewise, Muyuqhawa features spaces designated for housing, worship, funerary practices, and defense, chronologically associated with the Late Intermediate and Late Horizon periods.
Consequences of regularization
This will also provide legal protection against any threats that could affect its historical and cultural value. Likewise, it paves the way for further and new research.
Similarly, it will contribute to territorial planning, facilitating the development of basic services and access routes that benefit local communities without compromising the archaeological heritage.
Furthermore, the social use of the heritage will be enabled through its enhancement, integrating this archaeological complex into the social and economic life of the local population through sustainable tourism.
The Muyuqhawa Monumental Archaeological Complex was declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation in 2024 through Deputy Ministerial Resolution 000264-2024/VMPCIC.
