France and Peru strengthen cooperation in security and defense

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of France and Peru agreed in Paris to expand cooperation in security and defense, as well as to strengthen their ties in economic and environmental matters.

The meeting included the participation of Peruvian Defense Minister Walter Astudillo.

During the meeting between French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot and Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer, it was emphasized that defense cooperation is already dynamic.

It was also noted that this cooperation will be strengthened through new joint actions.

Additionally, the representatives of both countries discussed the prospects for consolidation of their economic relations, in sectors such as transportation and renewable energy, according to French diplomacy.

Environmental commitment

On environmental matters, the ministers reiterated their commitment to protecting the planet, within the framework of COP30.

The event will be held in the city of Belem, Brazil, this November.

Barrot also welcomed Peru's signing of the UN High Seas Treaty.

Lastly, he expressed his expectation of its forthcoming ratification
