Peruvian Ministers Elmer Schialer (Foreign Affairs) and Walter Astudillo (Defense) met in Stockholm with their Swedish counterparts, Maria Malmer Stenergard (Foreign Affairs) and Pål Jonson (Defense), to strengthen bilateral relations.

"The meetings addressed cooperation in security and defense, as well as the acquisition of military equipment and the transfer of technology for the defense industry and other areas of mutual interest," the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Discussions also covered the signing of an agreement on police cooperation, focused on combating transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism.

"In the commercial sphere, Sweden's decision to open a Business Sweden office in the (South American) country was well received. This platform will support Swedish companies investing in Peru and facilitate the entry of Peruvian companies into the Swedish market," the government agency noted.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for Minister Schialer to address aspects related to Peru's accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the support Sweden provides to our country in this endeavor.

"This visit reflects the strong state of bilateral relations, which have been reinforced in recent months through visits by Swedish government and private sector officials to our country," the Ministry concluded.
