Peru participated in the APEC Informal Senior Officials' Meeting (ISOM), held in Shenzhen, People's Republic of China on December 11-12. This event marked the official launch of APEC China 2026.

Under the central theme, "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together: Openness, Innovation, and Cooperation," China presented its vision and the main thematic pillars that will guide the forum's agenda in 2026.

The presentation was delivered by Ambassador Bai Tian, Vice Chair of the Senior Officials' Meeting (Vice SOM Chair) and Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The diplomat emphasized the importance of strengthening regional economic integration, harnessing technological tools, and using APEC as a dynamic platform to generate ideas and initiatives leading to concrete results.

In turn, the Peruvian delegation was led by Senior Official to APEC (SOM Peru), Minister in the Diplomatic Service of the Republic, Victor Muñoz.

The diplomat told the local press that APEC's flexible format and non-binding, consensus-based nature grant it a significant advantage over other multilateral and/or regional organizations.

He also expressed confidence in the success of APEC China 2026 and reaffirmed Peru's support for it.

The meeting was held in Shenzhen, one of China's most important technology and manufacturing hubs.

This coastal city —home to leading corporations such as Huawei, Tencent, DJI, and BYD— has the third-highest GDP in the country, underscoring its role as a key driver of industrial growth and innovation.
