The Ministry of Culture recovered 43 archaeological cultural artifacts over five centuries old, which were found by citizens in a vacant lot in Puente Piedra district, Lima province.

The cultural items found consist of a wooden artifact, three textile bags, two metal tupus (pins), two spindles with threads and a piruro (spindle whorl), gourds, a fan shell, a decorated textile band, and a bag containing cotton remains.

The collection also includes human remains: a fractured infant skull, 25 bones from an infant's limbs and ribs, and a mummified head with remains of skin and hair.

A preliminary examination of the artifacts, conducted by an archaeologist from the Ministry of Culture, determined that they likely correspond to styles from the Late Horizon period (1476 AD – 1532 AD).

This recovery was made possible thanks to the Northern Police Division 1 of the National Police of Peru, which acted in accordance with orders from the Fourth Office of the First Provincial Criminal Prosecutor's Office of Puente Piedra. It ordered the collection and transport of the presumed pre-Hispanic cultural items by the Ministry of Culture.

As instructed, the pieces of supposed pre-Hispanic origin were transported to the Ministry of Culture headquarters for conservation, safekeeping, evaluation management, and subsequent registration and declaration as cultural heritage.

The procedure was carried out by specialists from the Directorate of Recoveries (DRE), a unit of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage Defense, together with personnel from the Division of Investigation of Crimes Against Cultural Heritage of the Police and the Puente Piedra Police Station.

The Ministry of Culture calls on citizens to actively collaborate in the defense and protection of our valuable heritage by reporting any findings or attacks against movable or immovable cultural heritage.
