The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the diplomatic corps accredited in Peru, organized a visit to the Urubamba Valley in Cusco region from April 3 to 5 to showcase, alongside Cusco Regional Government and local governments, the economic and tourism potential, as well as the opportunities for international cooperation that the region has to offer to the world.

Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer accompanied the diplomats in an effort to promote and highlight the opportunities from the country's interior to the international community.

The visit prioritized engagement with social projects benefiting the most vulnerable populations in the local community and surrounding areas, such as the "Virgen de Vidawasi" Children's Health Citadel, located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in Urubamba province.

This is a social project of great importance for the decentralization of specialized pediatric healthcare for thousands of children and families from the most vulnerable populations and regions of our country.

Additionally, the activity served to showcase the region's main cultural and tourist attractions, along with its typical export products, such as Cusco's giant white corn, organic coffee, and cacao.

The diplomats also visited some artisanal production centers, the Ollantaytambo Citadel, and the Maras Salt Mines, among others.

The ambassadors and representatives of foreign missions were able to learn about the key role played by micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in the local economy, with over 2,900 active units in Urubamba contributing significantly to the southeastern region's economic development.

These enterprises have high internationalization potential through strategies that will be progressively promoted through trade alliances, participation in international fairs, and the promotion of e-commerce.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thus reaffirmed its commitment to serving as a bridge between the international community and the regional government, local governments, public and private institutions, and the local population, firmly supporting sustainable development, social inclusion, and the creation of new economic opportunities that bring well-being and contribute to the promotion of Peruvian regions' culture and tourism.
