The tourism sector is an important source of foreign exchange and employment. In this regard, the Executive Branch stated that this economic activity generates nearly US$5 billion in foreign exchange annually and provides jobs for over 1.3 million Peruvian citizens.

"More than 1.3 million Peruvians make a living from tourism. They are guides, artisans, cooks, transport providers, entrepreneurs —entire families who, with identity, effort, and creativity, build unforgettable experiences for our visitors every day," Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon stated during the opening of the Peru Travel Mart 2025 fair on Friday.

"This sector generates over US$5 billion in foreign exchange each year and has the remarkable capacity to bring development to the country's most remote corners through an activity that not only boosts the economy but also restores pride in our identity as a multicultural nation," she added.

In that regard, Leon stated that this industry has become a source of dignity, identity, and pride, as it connects diverse cultures that are then showcased to both domestic and international tourists.

Therefore, she emphasized that Peru Travel Mart 2025 represents a far-reaching platform and also serves as a space to showcase "who we are to the entire world."

"Peru Travel Mart is the most important business roundtable in the country's tourism industry focused on inbound tourism. Today, it is an opportunity to highlight the importance of the sectors that generate the most employment and hope in our country: tourism," she pointed out.
