Today, June 12, Andina News Agency celebrates 44 years of journalism, reaffirming its commitment to truthfulness and pluralism. In this new phase, it is also incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) tools that streamline processes and allow its journalists to focus on more creative and innovative content.

For over four decades, Andina has covered Peru's major events, contributing to the development of an informed citizenry.

Today, it not only reports the news but also educates, documents, produces high-quality audiovisual content, and maintains close contact with the public —especially in historically underrepresented regions.

A multiplatform agency

Today, Andina is a dynamic news ecosystem. It produces daily bulletins and newsletters, thematic podcasts, news videos, interactive infographics, special reports, photo galleries, live broadcasts, and documentaries.

Among these special features are "Caral, el amanecer de la civilización andina" (Caral, the Dawn of Andean Civilization), "Machu Picchu, sabiduría inca" (Machu Picchu, Inca Wisdom) and "Joyas religiosas en Lima: Santo Domingo" (Religious Treasures in Lima: Santo Domingo)—audiovisual and interactive productions that reflect the agency's commitment to promoting cultural heritage.

Digital presence and AI

With over 3 million followers across its various platforms, Andina has a strong social media presence, offering content tailored to each channel: TikTok, Instagram, X, YouTube, and Facebook.

Since 2024, the news agency has incorporated artificial intelligence tools to enhance video editing, trend analysis, and the automation of news alerts.

It maintains its human-centered approach, with specialized journalists and correspondents stationed in various regions.
But its contribution goes beyond the technical: AI has also been integrated into journalistic coverage, enabling automatic transcription of interviews, semantic classification of articles, pattern detection in public interest topics, and cross-checking of data with official sources.

These tools enhance the capabilities of the newsroom, speed up real-time coverage —such as debates, presidential events, or natural disasters— and elevate the quality of information. They do not replace human judgment, but rather strengthen it. Thus, Andina maintains a balance between technological innovation and editorial responsibility.

Andina Canal Online (Andina Online Channel) broadcasts interviews, analysis, and real-time coverage, reaching both domestic and international audiences. This diversification of formats allows the public to access information from multiple devices, with high-quality, contextualized, and verified content.

Historic coverage

Andina has played a key role in special coverage of landmark events in Peru and around the world —from Pope Francis' visit in 2018 to emergencies caused by the El Niño phenomenon, forest fires, and environmental disasters such as the oil spill in the sea off Ventanilla.

In the international arena, Andina served as an official media outlet for summits such as APEC Peru 2016 and APEC 2024. It also covered presidential visits, elections, and key moments such as the COVID-19 pandemic, providing timely and verified information.

Close to the citizenry

The agency has strengthened its ties with civil society through Vive Andina (Experience Andina), a cultural program that includes traveling photo exhibitions, panel discussions, and school visits to its facilities.

These initiatives promote media literacy, bring young people and communities closer to journalistic work, and foster respect for the role of the media in a democracy.

In Peruvian regions, Andina has covered social issues with a territorial approach, giving a voice to Indigenous communities, grassroots organizations, and local authorities.

Unwavering values

Throughout its 44 years, Andina has upheld its commitment to truth, neutrality, and pluralism. These ethical foundations have guided its work and earned the trust of millions of readers.

In a global context marked by misinformation, Andina reaffirms its role as a reliable and verified source.

Its editors, reporters, photographers, video journalists, and technical staff share a vision of public service, firmly believing that rigorous and committed journalism is essential to democracy.
