on Monday participated in the roundtable convened by the Executive Branch to adopt measures aimed at enabling formalization and effectively tackling illegal mining and the criminal activities it fosters.
The meeting was attended by the heads of Congress, the Judiciary, the Ombudsman's Office, as well as representatives of the National Federation of Small-Scale and Artisanal Mining of Peru, and business leaders from the sector.
During the first session held at the Government Palace, participants agreed that the problem of illegal mining must be addressed through a consensual, democratic, and peaceful approach, as it involves issues that have gone unresolved for years.
The agenda proposed by the Executive Branch focuses on three points: continuing the formalization processes currently underway, defending the rights of mining workers, and, finally, proposing new regulations that benefit all sectors involved and the citizenry as a whole.
