The film, titled "León de Perú," will follow the journey of Robert Francis Prevost —now Supreme Pontiff— during his nearly four decades of service in Peru. It will be available in Spanish, English, and Italian, the Holy See reported on Thursday.
The documentary visits the Peruvian towns where Prevost lived, including Chulucanas, Trujillo, Lima, Callao, and Chiclayo, to explore his journey through the voices of various witnesses who describe his character, as well as his pastoral and social work.
The U.S.-born pope, who also holds Peruvian nationality, lived in Peru for 38 years as a missionary and served as archbishop of the Diocese of Chiclayo before being elected as pontiff on May 8.
"León de Perú" will premiere this Friday at 5:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. GMT) on the Vatican News YouTube channel, with versions in Spanish, English, and Italian. It will be distributed through other international media outlets.
The documentary is a production of the Editorial Directorate of the Dicastery for Communication and the Vatican's media.
