held an important meeting with a delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Armed Forces of the French Senate, in which the strength and future prospects of the bilateral relationship between both countries were reaffirmed.
The meeting was held at Torre Tagle in Lima. It served to highlight the positive and concrete impact of this cooperation on the lives of Peruvians, while also recognizing the historical and multidimensional importance of the bond between Peru and France, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified.
Likewise, the significant boost to high-level political dialogue was emphasized, thanks to the recent working meeting held in Nice between Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and her French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
Infrastructure projects
One of the most relevant aspects of this cooperation is the execution of large infrastructure projects that improve citizens' quality of life.
It is worth recalling that, through government-to-government agreements, France is taking part in the construction of Peru's new Central Highway and Santa Rosa Expressway.
French collaboration also extends to the modernization of hospitals in Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, and Puno, benefiting more than 1.5 million people.
In addition, the French company Engie will carry out electrical projects in Ancash, Junin, and Ucayali regions, ensuring access to energy for 700,000 citizens.
Close cooperation
Meanwhile, environmental cooperation between Peru and France was strengthened with the recent signing of the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ), known as the High Seas Treaty.
This action underscores Peru's global leadership in the fight against plastic pollution and its active role leading up to COP30 in Belem, Brazil, as one of the countries with the largest area of Amazonian forests.
In the economic field, the tour of Lima by MEDEF —the French business association that brings together firms from key sectors such as energy, transport, infrastructure, and mining— was highlighted.
Furthermore, the conclusion of negotiations on the Agreement to Avoid Double Taxation was celebrated, a measure that will facilitate greater investments between the two countries.
Finally, the upcoming signing of a Declaration of Intent between the Ministries of the Interior of Peru and France was welcomed. It aims to strengthen cooperation against organized crime and drug trafficking. France was also thanked for its firm support of Peru's accession process to the OECD.
