Address to the Nation: Peru aims to consolidate presence in world's major markets

14:04 | Lima, Jul. 28.

The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, stated on Monday that Peru has gained prominence in international trade, achieving significant results.

"In 2024, the country reached a record of US$74.463 billion in exports, which meant $12.500 billion more than the value exported in 2023, far surpassing the regional average," she said during her Independence Day address to the Congress of the Republic.

The Head of State reported that exports totaled $33.41 billion in the period from January to May of this year, an 22.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023, and well above the average registered in Latin America.

"With a clear, decentralized, and sustained trade liberalization policy, Peru is working to consolidate its presence in the world's leading markets. That is why our commitment has been —and will continue to be— to implement a viable roadmap that ensures stronger economic growth and greater equity, grounded in open trade, competitiveness, and leadership in the global economy," she said.

Mrs. Boluarte stated that her administration has always maintained a clear economic direction.

"Our economic growth is —and must continue to be— driven by exports and the private investment that supports it,” she noted.

The top official added that this approach will lead to more jobs, higher tax revenue, improved public service infrastructure, and greater well-being for all Peruvians.

"That is why, from the start of our administration, we have worked decisively to develop logistics infrastructure —ports, airports, highways, and railways— understanding that these projects help reduce costs, boost competitiveness, and increase exports," she noted.

In that regard, Mrs. Boluarte highlighted recent regulatory changes to the Port Law, as well as the expansion of the Callao Southern and Northern Terminals, the inauguration of the Chancay Part, the opening of the new Jorge Chavez International Airport, and the completion of the Canta-Huallay Highway, among other projects —all aligned with Peru's export-led growth approach.
