Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Monday pointed out that the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC 2024) forum, to be held in Peru this November, will experience a 50% increase in attendance.

The government official indicated that since Peru officially assumed the APEC forum's presidency in November 2023, all the planned meetings and some additional ones have been held in five regions, in accordance with the thematic axes.

"It is expected that we will register a 50% increase in attendance at the summit, scheduled for November 15 and 16, with the participation of 20 heads of state, Trade and Economy ministers, as well as other officials, joined by thousands of investors from these economies," Gonzalez-Olaechea told RCR.

Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea specified that the arrival of China's President, Xi Jinping, to Peru for the APEC Summit has been unofficially confirmed, as usually happens with great world powers due to security reasons.

"During the recent State visit to China, the Chinese Foreign Affairs minister clearly informed me that they were arriving and staying on (November) 17 for a State visit, and that the Chanchay Port would be inaugurated," he said.

The Cabinet member emphasized that the State visit to China proceeded in accordance with the schedule previously submitted to Congress in the travel authorization request.

Furthermore, Gonzalez-Olaechea mentioned that 13 agreements and one main agreement were signed during the trip.

"There are investment opportunities, increased technology transfer, and more trade. We had the opportunity to showcase the country's strengths to investors," Gonzales-Olaechea stated.

"The private sector has also been invited to partner with Chinese investors in order to accelerate technology transfer to Peru's business sector," he added.
