The Judicial Branch on Thursday ordered seven days of detention in flagrante delicto for two Colombian citizens, investigated for a crime against national integrity on Chineria Island, in Santa Rosa district, Loreto region.

They are Carlos Fernando Sanchez Ordegon and John Wilington Amia Lopez, who had entered Peruvian territory without authorization to conduct topographic studies.

According to the court ruling, the measure took effect on the day of their detention, August 12, and will extend until August 19.

The head of the Ramon Castilla Provincial Court of Peace asserted that the presence of the suspects is required to carry out proceedings aimed at clarifying the events.

As previously noted, the Provincial Criminal Prosecutor’s Office of Mariscal Ramon Castilla announced yesterday the launch of a preliminary investigation against the foreign nationals and any other parties found responsible.

The investigation concerns the alleged crime of attacking national sovereignty through acts aimed at subjecting the republic to foreign domination.

According to the initial inquiries by Deputy Provincial Prosecutor Rodolfo Sifuentes, the foreign citizens were detained and taken to the Santa Rosa police station, "as they had allegedly attempted to determine the location of national territory as part of Colombian territory."
