Peruvian Culture Minister Fabricio Valencia participated in the 2025 APEC High-Level Dialogue on Cultural and Creative Industries, held in Gyeongju, South Korea, where the contribution of this sector to economic and social development was highlighted.

The event was inaugurated by South Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Chae Hwi-young. It brought together representatives from APEC economies.

The Peruvian government official emphasized that this platform "marks a milestone for APEC economies" by strengthening the joint work of Culture Ministries and recognizing the value of Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) in sustainable and inclusive development.

The outcomes of this meeting were reflected in the consensus Declaration of APEC economies, signed on August 27. It recognizes the contribution of cultural industries to job creation, business opportunities, innovation, and mutual understanding across the Asia-Pacific region.

Bilateral cooperation with South Korea

As part of his agenda, Minister Valencia met with Korea Heritage Service Administrator Huh Min to follow up on the Memorandum of Understanding on cultural heritage signed in April.

This agreement aims to promote joint projects, including the protection of the Machu Picchu National Archaeological Park through the exchange of technologies and experiences.

Furthermore, he will hold a meeting with Minister Chae Hwi-young, within the framework of the Peru–South Korea Joint Declaration, signed by President Dina Boluarte and her Korean counterpart at APEC Peru 2024.

This agreement recognizes the potential of culture to foster mutual respect, as well as promote exchanges in music, dance, visual arts, and cultural heritage.

These meetings provide a strategic platform to strengthen cultural and creative industries, promote audiovisual production, and reinforce mutual cooperation in the preservation of cultural heritage and ancestral knowledge of Peru and South Korea.
