On October 26, 1998, Peruvian and Ecuadorian citizens reunited in historic friendship thanks to the signing of the Brasilia Peace Accords, the Foreign Affairs Ministry highlighted.

"Our relations of friendship, cooperation, trust, and willingness to integrate allow us to address the challenges of the present, and together we project ourselves towards a future of development and well-being for our peoples," the ministry stated in a communiqué on Saturday.

It underscored that Peru and Ecuador are working together on physical and energy integration, promoting trade and investment, protecting our environment, and strengthening our democracies, "with the conviction that peace and cooperation are the foundations of our renewed brotherhood."

A quarter of a century ago, a historic agreement signed at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasilia put an end to several years of border disputes between the Republics of Ecuador and Peru.

The Presidential Act of Brasilia, signed on October 26, 1998, marked a milestone in the history of both nations by resolving differences that had led to war episodes in 1941 and 1995, due to the lack of demarcation of 78 kilometers of mutual border.
