Last Sunday, the
forum unanimously approved the Implementation Plan for the Guidelines aimed at promoting the adoption of clean hydrogen policies in the Asia-Pacific region, a proposal put forward by Peru.
The
document, which was approved by APEC's Energy Working Group (EWG), is part of the follow-up mechanism for the main agreements adopted by the bloc's Energy Ministers during their meeting in Lima last year.
This plan marks a key milestone in the forum's efforts to promote a viable and effective energy transition, within which clean and low-carbon hydrogen stands out as one of the most promising drivers for the Asia-Pacific region.
In this regard, the implementation plan sets out an initial roadmap aimed at facilitating the adoption of common regulatory frameworks, standards, and certification mechanisms, as well as financing schemes, industrial policies, and incentives for APEC projects in key strategic sectors such as transportation, industry, power generation, and agriculture.
In line with the commitments made under Peru's APEC 2024 Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Mines, will continue to promote the coordination of capacities at the national level, the design of cooperation projects, and the strategic positioning of Peru as a regional leader in sustainable energy innovation.
