As part of his participation in the Third China-CELAC Ministerial Forum on Agriculture, Peruvian Agrarian Development and Irrigation Minister Angel Manero participated in the Fourth Meeting of the Peru-China Joint Agricultural Cooperation Commission.

During his presentation, the government official presented Peru's progress in agro-industry and exports, highlighting its position as one of the main food suppliers worldwide, with various products, such as blueberries, grapes, mangoes, coffee, and others, which have conquered the main international markets.

Minister Manero was also present at a High-Level Forum, at which topics of the cooperation agenda between both ministries will be discussed, which include the development of projects, cooperation programs, access to markets, among others.

First agreements

On Monday, the high-ranking official began his participation in the Third China-CELAC Ministerial Forum on Agriculture, which will be held until July 3.

Among the first agreements of this forum, China committed to cementing, as well as further strengthening agricultural trade and economic cooperation on the basis of mutual benefits and win-win outcomes by expanding trade volume and stimulating agricultural investment.

The objective is to achieve, within the implementation period of the Action Plan, at least US$100 billion for agricultural trade between China and CELAC, and least US$5 billion for agricultural investments from China to CELAC countries.

Likewise, Forum member countries committed to fostering the transformation of agricultural systems towards green energy by supporting exchange and cooperation in drone technology, digital agriculture, and green energy.

China encourages enterprises on both sides to conduct technological cooperation on crop protection drones.

Besides, it was agreed that the parties will institutionalize vocational training and capacity development programs, facilitating the exchange of young talents.

To provide more opportunities for capacity development of agricultural professionals and professional farmers from CELAC countries, China will invite 100 people involved in agriculture-related activities to receive training in the Asian Giant every year for the next five years.

On the other hand, the scope of agricultural cooperation will continue to expand and new cooperation approaches will be identified.

In addition to strengthening existing cooperation in animal and agricultural production techniques, agricultural technology, animal husbandry, veterinary services, agricultural processing and mechanization, the parties will actively explore possibilities for cooperation in AI, smart agriculture, rural revitalization, and other emerging areas.

Before his departure to China, Minister Manero stressed the importance of strengthening the commercial relationship and bilateral cooperation with the Asian country.

"The important thing about this trip is that it will allow the start of negotiations so that Peru can export pork and beef to that market. It is the beginning of the negotiation process," he indicated.
