The mining and hydrocarbons sector increased 1.83% last May due to the positive performance of metallic mining activity (2.39%), the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Tuesday.

Metallic mining activity growth was associated with production of molybdenum (22.7%), silver (21.9%), iron (20.7%), lead (19.8%), tin (7.2%), and gold (4.5%), which was partially offset by lower extraction of zinc (-11.3%) and copper (-1.1%).

The INEI detailed that the hydrocarbons subsector registered a negative performance (-1.68%) due to lower volume of crude oil (-9.4%). However, production of natural gas liquids (1.5%) and natural gas (0.4%) went up.

Energy

During the analyzed month, electricity generation rose 1.80% as a result of greater generation of energy from hydroelectric origin (10.3%) and renewable energies (60.6%). Nonetheless, thermoelectric generation was reduced (-15.4%).

Among the companies that stood out due to their production were Fenix Power Perú, Energía Eólica, Celepsa, Parque Eólico Tres Hermanas, Electroperú, Enel Generación Perú, Orazul Energy Perú, Statkraft Perú, Engie Energía Perú, and EGASA.

During the sixth month of the year and, according to preliminary information available as of June 27, electricity generation increased 0.12%, driven by greater generation of energy from hydroelectric origin (16.3%) and renewable energies (39.3%).

This result was partially offset by lower generation of electricity of thermoelectric origin (-14.1%).

Among the companies that showed the best results were: Electroperú, Fenix Power Perú, Statkraft Perú, San Gabán, Parque Eólico Tres Hermanas, Orazul Energy Perú, Chinango, Celepsa, Empresa de Generación Huallaga, and Kallpa Generación.
