The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday stated that there are still men who belittle women and hinder their full recognition in society, solely because they are women.

"Behind acts of aggression against women, there are often traits such as insecurity and paranoia, as well as resistance to equality between men and women," she said.

As the top official led the "Order of Merit for Women 2025," Mrs. Boluarte affirmed that, as an Andean woman, she is not afraid of those who, from the shadows, seek to impose their will by weaponizing justice and believe that their misogyny justifies subjugating women.

"History does not belong to those who manipulate power from the darkness but to those who face it with courage, dignity, and, above all, truth. That is why I tell you, dear sisters, our government stands with each and every one of you. With commitment, responsibility, respect, and love for our country, we will not cease in the fight for a fairer and more equal Peru," she emphasized.

The top official stated that, as the first female President of Peru, she will continue working tirelessly to break down the barriers that prevent the full exercise of women's rights and will keep promoting policies that ensure a future where every Peruvian woman can develop in a safe and dignified environment.

The Head of State went on to highlight that one of the most significant changes in the labor market has been the reduction in the gender gap in labor force participation over recent decades.

She specified that, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the female labor force participation rate reached 65.4% in 2023, showing an increase compared to previous years. However, a 13.8% gap still persists compared to the male participation rate, which stood at 79.2%.

Mrs. Boluarte stated that the female employment rate was 60.3%, while the male rate stood at 74.1%. These numbers reflect progress but also remind us of the challenges that remain in achieving full equality in the workplace.

"This 2025, we will strengthen women's empowerment through initiatives such as the National Strategy for Women Entrepreneurs, which promotes the full participation of women at all levels of economic activity, including those leading businesses, companies, and entrepreneurial associations," she pointed out.

Moreover, Mrs. Boluarte reaffirmed that women are not the weaker sex, nor are they in the shadow of a great man, as is often said. On the contrary, Peruvian women are leaders and masters of their own destiny.

"Today, as we recognize these valuable compatriots, we also pay tribute to the brave women who preceded us and reaffirm that the progress of our nation depends on the full and active participation of all of us. You are the driving force of change, the example that inspires, and the hope for a future where equality is a reality," she noted.
