During a plenary session on Thursday, the Parliament approved the Legislative Resolution Draft No. 9307, which authorizes the entry of military personnel from the United States of America into Peru before, during, and after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, from November 4 to 24, in the cities of Lima, Pisco, and Chiclayo.

The legislative initiative was approved with 62 votes in favor, 24 against, and 7 abstentions.

Parliament's National Defense Commission Chairwoman Adriana Tudela (Go on Country party) stated that the reason for this resolution is to guarantee the security standards required for hosting the leaders of the world's 21 largest economies in Peru.

The legislator also explained that the text specifies the reasons, the number of military personnel, transient teams, and the duration of their stay in Peruvian territory, complying with the requirements established in Article 76 of Congress' Regulations and the Law on Requirements for the Authorization and Consent for the Entry of Foreign Troops (No. 27856).

"The benefits of this resolution are aimed at improving security for the various activities framed within the development of the APEC forum, as well as the Economic Leaders' Summit and related events that will be held within the country," Tudela stated.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
