The Government of Peru and the Kingdom of Sweden reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their political, diplomatic, and economic ties, in the context of a meeting between Foreign Affairs Ministers Elmer Schialer and Maria Malmer Stenergard at Torre Tagle Palace in Lima.

Both diplomats held a gathering in which they highlighted key common principles and values, such as international law, multilateralism, and democracy, as well as the promotion of responsible investments, cooperation on security matters, and sustainable development.

The two officials engaged in dialogue, encouraged by momentum in bilateral relations following last week's meeting between Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

The government officials stressed the importance of promoting economic and trade ties between the two nations. Foreign Affairs Minister Schialer highlighted the policy of attracting foreign investment under standards of sustainability and transparency.

Sweden currently ranks 28th in Foreign Direct Investment in Peru, with companies such as Atlas Copco, Volvo, Oriflame, Sandvik, and AstraZeneca operating in the Peruvian market.

The discussion also focused on the relevance of working in the field of police cooperation, in the areas of the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking, and other threats.

Moreover, Sweden's support for Peru's accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was underscored. Additionally, cooperation projects on mitigating deforestation and promoting social rights were presented.

The distinguished visitor's agenda began Thursday with business-related activities, highlighting the "Peru-Sweden Mining Summit" event, which included the participation of more than 20 Swedish business representatives.

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to promote initiatives that consolidate the relationship between both countries, for the benefit of their citizens.

Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard also met with the Peruvian Cabinet Chief, Gustavo Adrianzen, and ex-Minister of Economy-Finance, Jose Arista.
