Peru's Senior Official for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, Renato Reyes, emphasized during the closing of the Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) that Peru received congratulations from the other 20 participating economies for the progress made thus far.

The diplomat indicated that there is still much work to be done until November 16, when the Leaders' Meeting of member economies will take place.

Reyes specified that since Saturday, November 9, the negotiating teams from APEC economies have been engaged in intense discussions and negotiations regarding the four documents that are expected to be approved during APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW), currently underway in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

The official noted that on Tuesday, November 12, a detailed report was presented on the technical-political documents produced as a result of the decentralized meetings held this year in five Peruvian cities: Arequipa, Trujillo, Pucallpa, Urubamba, and Lima.

"This is how the meetings concluded, with congratulations from the other 20 economies for what has been accomplished so far," Reyes indicated during a press conference on Tuesday.

He also mentioned that on Thursday, November 14, a joint meeting of Asia-Pacific Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministers will take place, followed by the APEC Economic Leaders' Dialogue with ABAC on Friday, November 15.

Reyes Tagle remarked that Saturday, November 16, will mark the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, where the three thematic pillars Peru has brought forward this year will be addressed: trade and investment for inclusive economic growth, digital innovation to promote the transition to a formal economy, and sustainable growth for a resilient development.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
