"This result was mainly explained by a 102% increase in export volumes, driven by greater availability of giant squid biomass due to the increased presence of food in its habitat," the issuing entity noted.
Thus, exports of frozen and canned giant squid expanded by 324.6% and 271.7%, respectively.
Additionally, international prices for giant squid remained high due to the limited supply from Peru recorded last year.
This was reflected in a 33.9% increase in the price of frozen giant squid and a 40.5% increase in the price of canned giant squid.

Meanwhile, the BCR reported that non-traditional fishery product exports totaled US$938 million from January to May 2025, a 66.9% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
"This growth was driven by higher volumes, which increased by 39.8%, and prices, which rose by 19.4%," the issuing entity pointed out.
