The
Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) on Thursday reported that it is carrying out urgent actions to clarify the circumstances of the death of Eduardo Ruiz, 32, who was shot with a firearm near Plaza Francia in downtown Lima during social protests on October 15.
In this regard, it stated that the Third Supra-Provincial Prosecutor's Office Specializing in Human Rights and Anti-Terrorism, in charge of the case, ordered the retrieval of the body at Arzobispo Loayza Hospital.
It also ordered the collection of audiovisual and ballistic evidence in the area where the incident occurred, in the context of serious human rights violations.
On Wednesday evening, demonstrators mobilized through the main streets of downtown Lima, where clashes with police were reported.
Dozens of police officers and civilians were injured during the demonstration.
The violence occurred on streets in downtown Lima, including Abancay Avenue, near the Congress of the Republic.
Investigation into alleged police abuse
The Prosecutor's Office has also launched a preliminary investigation into the police agents potentially responsible for the harm caused to citizens Jean Pierre Niño de Guzman and Cristian Raymundo, as well as other victims yet to be identified, who allegedly were shot with rubber pellets.
Ballistic examinations were ordered, and a forensic doctor will accompany the process at Arzobispo Loayza Hospital in Lima, where the aggrieved parties are being treated.
The proceedings will allow for the identification of possible witnesses to the events and the determination of criminal responsibility for the alleged excessive use of force during the latest social protests.
