The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Tuesday reaffirmed her loyal and determined commitment to all Peruvian farmers, on the occasion of Farmer's Day.

The announcement was made by the Head of State during the recognition ceremony titled “Heroes of the Countryside.” At this event, various awards were presented to men and women working in agriculture.

"Today, June 24, as we celebrate and acknowledge the essential work carried out by our brothers and sisters in the countryside, I want to reaffirm my loyal and determined commitment to farmers across Peru," she expressed.

Likewise, the top official stated that the Government will continue strengthening efforts so that the brothers and sisters who put their hands and hearts to work each day can continue tilling the land.

"My commitment is to the more than 2 million Peruvians who, through their work, ensure food security for over 33 million people —whose effort and tireless dedication are a clear example of Peruvian identity and love for the national colors," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

"They are our heroes of the countryside, and our Government stands with them to pursue the development and progress of our agriculture through concrete actions and projects," she added.

In this regard, the President indicated that her administration is promoting a development agenda aimed at providing farmers with more resources and training, as well as ensuring fairer conditions for the commercialization of their products.

"With political will and affection for our farmers, we have allocated over S/262 million (above US$72.92 million) for the construction of 1,200 jochas through the Sierra Azul Fund, directly benefiting nearly 26,000 farming families," she stated.

In addition, through the Multisectoral Plan for Frosts and Cold Spell, more than S/94 million (above US$26.16 million) will be invested this year to mitigate the effects of low temperatures.

"Meanwhile, through the AgroPeru Fund, we granted 110,000 loans totaling nearly S/1.38 billion (about US$384 million); while through the Financial Inclusion Fund for Small-Scale Agricultural Producers, 95,000 loans were granted for an amount close to S/1.4 billion (about US$389 million), implementing over 1,600 business plans," she added.

Moreover, the President stated that when she came into office, it was with the aim of revolutionizing agriculture and unlocking major projects that had been neglected by previous administrations.

"Today, we are promoting 25 major irrigation projects such as Chavimochic, Majes Siguas, Chinecas, among others, with an investment of US$22 billion, which will expand the agricultural frontier in Peru," she stated.

Lastly, Mrs. Boluarte expressed her appreciation for the valuable contribution of more than 690,000 women producers —brave leaders who are worth a Peru— and whom "we embrace fraternally today."
