VP: Government willing to hold WEF regional meeting in Peru

The Vice-President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Wednesday affirmed that the Peruvian Government is willing to hold a World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2023.

"This proposal was transmitted to Klaus Schwab, WEF founder and (executive) chairman, during our meeting held in Davos," Mrs. Boluarte expressed on her official Twitter account. 

The also Development and Social Inclusion Minister met with Mr. Schwab. At the event, she invited the organization to hold its next regional meeting for Latin America and the Caribbean in the southern Andean city of Cusco next year.

This offer was thanked by Mr. Schwab, who also renewed his commitment to strengthen working relations and cooperation between the WEF and Peru.


Panel on Amazonia

On Wednesday morning, Vice-President Boluarte participated in the panel on the Amazon (A New Pathway for the Amazon Basin), where she highlighted the actions that Peru has been carrying out to face challenges such as illegal logging and deforestation.

Likewise, the government official highlighted the implementation of social programs such as "Noa Jayatai" which promotes the productive development of these populations.

In this sense, she called on the business community to strengthen the strategic alliance with the State for the Amazonia to continue developing in a sustainable manner, in line with the new paradigm of stakeholder capitalism promoted by the WEF.

The panel was shared with the President of Colombia, Ivan Duque; CEOs of Itaú Unibanco and the Brazilian Development Bank, as well as academics from Harvard University (U.S.) and the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Finally, joined by Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar LandaVice-President Boluarte met with Rio Tinto Group CEO Jakob Stausholm. At this event, they reviewed the status of investments in Peru.

Furthermore, she exhorted him to continue contributing to the development of surrounding communities.
