The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday affirmed that local governments will be allocated S/300 million (about US$75 million) in their 2022 budget to ensure the maintenance of neighborhood roads, in addition to S/480 million (about US$120 million) aimed at boosting basic infrastructure projects expected to generate 165,000 temporary jobs.

During his participation in the Muni-Executive meeting, the Head of State said that S/480 million (about US$120 million) is linked to Trabaja Peru (Work, Peru) —a program that allows the intensive hiring of non-skilled labor in a community.

"My commitment to close infrastructure gaps at the local government level is firm. Therefore, the following year we will be allocating about S/255 million (about US$63.75 million) for Apurimac region's local governments to develop various infrastructure projects," he expressed.

The top official specified that, in addition to the S/57 billion (about US$14.25 billion) assigned to the 2022 budget for regional and local governments, the allocation of S/8.8 billion (about US$2.2 billion) is planned for health, education, road maintenance, and the continuity of strategic investments.

Before mayors gathered at the event, Mr. Castillo reported that in the coming days 70% of the target population will be immunized against COVID-19, as part of his commitment to protect Peruvians' lives and health.

Furthermore, he said the Second Agrarian Reform being implemented by his administration will lift more than two million rural women and men out of poverty.

"These spaces are the true ones required to understand one another, to see whether or not we are responding to people's needs; that will be the way of working for the country," he emphasized, while specifying that his administration has not caused conflicts, mining canon-related issues, poverty, corruption, crime, or centralism. Nonetheless —he said— it fights against those problems.

After reiterating his permanent support for regional and local governments, the Head of State affirmed that his administration has the doors open to address their concerns and asked them to let him know whether any minister closes the doors to them.

Moreover, President Castillo greeted the political parties which had recently participated in the round of dialogue with the Government.
