The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday affirmed that the Government will continue undertaking the necessary efforts to promote economic growth and the generation of quality employment for the benefit of all Peruvians —especially the most vulnerable citizens.

The Head of State participated in the virtual plenary session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) along with counterparts Ivan Duque (Colombia), Carlos Alvarado (Costa Rica), Guillermo Lasso (Ecuador), Alejandro Giammattei (Guatemala), and Inter-American Development Bank Chairman Mauricio Claver-Carone.

Within this framework, the President highlighted the fact that Peru would have led the 2021 economic growth in Latin America, with a projection of 13%, and stressed that this increase responds to the rebound effect following the decline of the previous year, and also to opportunities generated by the country.

The top official pointed out that a committed State is required to implement the reforms which lead to achieving sustainable and inclusive development.

According to the Head of State, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that the market by itself is not enough to address economic, social, and environmental challenges.

Likewise, Mr. Castillo affirmed it is necessary that the Peruvian State and private companies promote productive diversity —with fair treatment of workers and environment protection.

Furthermore, the top official mentioned that upon taking office on July 28, 2021, his first priority was to overcome the crisis generated by the pandemic that found Peru with a precarious health system.

To achieve this objective —he indicated— the necessary budgets were allocated for the purchase of vaccines, adding that 84% of the population is currently immunized with two doses against COVID-19.

The arrival of approximately 55 million additional vaccine doses will be added to this goal, he said.

The President also stressed that one of his administration's priorities is the promotion of investments as engine for social well-being and economic recovery —in an environment of trust.

Moreover, he took advantage of his participation in the economic forum to invite domestic and foreign businesspeople to invest in Peru, reiterating responsible management, legal stability, and clear rules.
