Peru's Fin Min: Government is committed to dialogue

15:59 | Lima, Dec. 6.

The Government is committed to dialogue in order to reach agreements, Economy and Finance Minister Pedro Francke said on Monday, referring to the meetings that President Pedro Castillo has held with the leaders of political parties.

"I believe this is an effort to reach agreements, which sometimes takes time. Being committed to dialogue is the best option. This effort has been well received by the private sector, and I think the country needs to be committed to it," Francke stated.

In addition, he said the presidential impeachment motion lacks legal support and only causes more instability.

"What is becoming clear is that the impeachment does not have a constitutional or legal basis. The impeachment —as (Francisco) Sagasti and former ministers said— causes instability. Peru has had five presidents in five years; that is not positive," he remarked.

The minister commented that the Head of State should complete his five-year term in office, noting that this is the best thing for the country.

"A five-year term is most convenient for the country; a full term of government is the best option," he said in statements to the media.
