Female leaders from Peru and Latin America participated in the symbolic event "Semilla de todas las sangres" ("Seed of all races") within the framework of the Second Summit of Indigenous Women of Abya Yala and on the
International Day of Rural Women.
It also drew female representatives of rural areas in the country, including farmers, artisans, indigenous natives, and wage earners.
About the Summit
Peru is hosting the Second Summit of Indigenous Women of Abya Yala, which brings together more than 1,000 indigenous women between October 14 and 18.
Female leaders from indigenous peoples in Latin America participate in the Summit to prepare a common agenda in favor of rights of indigenous women.
The main goal of this event is to establish a strategic alliance in Latin America in order to enforce the rights of indigenous women.
Around 1,000 indigenous women leaders from different countries in the region will address topics such as climate crisis, environment, gender equality, and the right to a good life.
As of 2020, there were 17,746,305 women in Peru, who made up 49.99% of the total population. However, in rural areas, 51.4% of people were women.
