Peru: Congress approves Public Sector Budget Bill for FY 2022

During a plenary session on Thursday afternoon, Congress approved the Public Sector Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2022, which was debated for three days.

The decision was approved with 116 votes in favor, 2 against, and 6 abstentions.

On the occasion, Parliament also approved the Bill on Financial Balance, with 117 votes in favor, 1 against, and 7 abstentions.

Legislators also passed the Bill on Public Sector Debt for the same fiscal year, with 116 votes in favor, 1 against, and 7 abstentions.

The budget bill did not require a second voting session, in accordance with of Article 78 of the National Parliament Regulations.

Before the vote, Congress Budget Commission head Hector Acuña provided details about the latest amendments to the bill and thanked the Executive Branch and Parliament for having engaged "in a harmonious work."

"This work has allowed us to develop a decentralized budget with a human touch and social sensitivity," he said.

As is known, the Public Sector Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2022 amounts to S/197 billion (over US$48.9 billion), up 7.6% compared to 2021.
