Peru: Government reaffirms commitment to protecting children's rights

10:38 | Lima, Nov. 20.

The Peruvian Government on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of children nationwide, with the aim of ensuring the well-being they deserve, within the framework of World Children's Day.

This message was shared by the Presidency of the Republic on the X platform.

"For our girls and boys, we work every day for a Peru with equal opportunities, quality education, and guaranteed protection," the Presidential Office stated.

"From the Executive Branch, we reaffirm our commitment to protect their rights, granting them the opportunity to achieve the well-being they deserve. They are the present and the future of our Peru!" it added.

World Children's Day is celebrated every November 20, commemorating the anniversaries of the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959) and the approval of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989).

This convention —the most universal of international treaties— establishes a series of rights for boys and girls, including those relating to life, health, and education, the right to play, to family life, to protection from violence and discrimination, and to have their opinions heard.

All members of our society play a key role in children's well-being.

Thus, World Children's Day offers a starting point for taking inspiring action to defend, promote, and celebrate minor's rights through dialogue and action that will build a better world for them.
